Somatic therapy helps you heal by connecting mind and body, releasing trauma stored deep within
Have you tried traditional talk therapy but find you "understand” everything, yet nothing seems to feel different?
Have you ever felt like your emotions are all of over the place?
Somatic therapy bridges the gap between mind and body, using mindfulness to help you tune into the physical sensations, movements, and impulses that often hold the key to unresolved trauma. The focus of somatic therapy is noticing feeling in the body in the present moment.Do you feel like your body reacts before you even realize what’s happening?
This therapy helps you become aware of automatic fight, flight, or freeze responses stored in your nervous system. Through gentle guidance, you’ll learn how to self-regulate and respond to stressors in healthier, more grounded ways.Have you noticed how certain postures or habits seem connected to emotional pain?
Somatic therapy explores how your body holds onto the past—whether it’s a slouched posture tied to feelings of shame or a tightened jaw from years of suppressed anger. Together, we’ll work to release these patterns and create new ones that feel freer and more empowering. Are you ready to understand the link between your past and present?
Using techniques like body awareness, role-playing, and therapeutic experiments, you’ll safely process buried memories and frozen feelings. This integration helps you move forward with a renewed sense of wholeness and possibility.Do you struggle to feel safe or calm in your own body?
Through connecting to internal resources, you’ll build a foundation of safety and self-compassion, allowing you to approach life with clarity, confidence, and resilience.
You don’t have to navigate the weight of shame, disconnection, or past pain alone. Together, we’ll explore compassionate ways to reconnect with your body, understand your emotions, and create the balance and self-trust you deserve.

Stabilization and Safety:
The first phase establishes a foundation of trust and safety, focusing on expanding your window of tolerance—the capacity to navigate stress without becoming overwhelmed or numb. Together, we’ll cultivate mindfulness and body awareness, helping you recognize and regulate physical sensations and emotions. These skills create the stability needed to approach deeper work with confidence and resilience.Processing Trauma:
In this phase, we gently explore the echoes of past experiences stored in both body memory and biographical memory. Body memory reflects how trauma lives within your muscles, posture, and nervous system, often beyond conscious awareness. Biographical memory, on the other hand, holds the story of your experiences. Using mindful awareness, small movements, and body-based techniques, we’ll bring these two layers into harmony, allowing you to process and integrate what has been unresolved. This careful integration releases the grip of old patterns, freeing you to live more fully in the present.Reintegration and Growth:
The final phase focuses on transformation and empowerment. By reshaping limiting beliefs, habitual postures, and reactive emotional patterns, you’ll develop adaptive ways of being that reflect your true self. This phase helps you move forward with a sense of wholeness, where body and mind work together to support your goals, relationships, and overall well-being. You’ll feel more grounded, resilient, and fully connected to the life you want to live.

Who Can Benefit from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™ is ideal for individuals who:
Experience trauma symptoms: Such as flashbacks, emotional overwhelm, or a sense of disconnection.
Struggle with body-related issues: Including chronic tension, pain, or a sense of "stuckness" in the body.
Want to heal attachment wounds: From early hurtful relationships or challenging family dynamics.
Feel reactive or disconnected: From automatic fight, flight, or freeze responses to difficulty being present.
Seek a holistic approach: Combining body awareness, emotional processing, and mindfulness techniques to foster healing.
Have tried traditional talk therapy: And want a more body-based approach to complement verbal processing.
Who Might Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Be Contraindicated For?
While Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is highly effective for many, it may not be suitable for individuals who:
Are actively in crisis: Such as those experiencing psychosis, severe dissociation, or high-risk behaviors without stabilization.
Lack readiness for body awareness work: If focusing on physical sensations feels unsafe or overwhelming without strong coping mechanisms in place.
Are seeking immediate solutions: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a process-oriented approach that unfolds gradually and may not meet the needs of those looking for quick fixes.
Have certain medical conditions: Such as significant physical pain or neurological conditions that make body awareness practices more challenging, unless these conditions are managed collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
Would you like to expand on any of these points or tailor them to your specific practice?

Touch is not central to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy™ but may be used intentionally and with explicit consent to support body awareness and healing. For example, a therapist might guide you through a resistance exercise, such as gently pushing against their hands. This helps you explore boundaries, strength, and emotional responses stored in the body, fostering empowerment and self-regulation.
Touch is always trauma-informed, collaborative, and optional. Alternatives like using props or guided imagery ensure safety and comfort remain the priority.
I have been utilizing somatic therapy via remote sessions since 2020 and have found that it can be adjusted for online therapy.
