TRAUMA RESOLUTION
My approach to the treatment of trauma is dedicated to helping you create safety and stability, develop internal and external resources, transform your current experience of past trauma, and promote mind-body-emotion regulation and integration.
I provide integrative therapy that is supportive, evidence-based and tailor made to each client’s needs. I have unique training Sensorimotor Psychotherapy- a body-oriented talk therapy trauma treatment that helps clients relieve not only the emotional and cognitive symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, but also the physical symptoms. The body’s sensations, tensions and postures are used both as a source of information about the root of client’s issues while also being the source of healing. People often respond positively to this gentle yet empowering approach that aims to help people feel more present in their life, think with greater clarity and able to move past the hold of trauma. I also specialize in treating relational trauma which can include betrayal, abuse or neglect from either adult relationships or childhood relationships. This type of trauma can result in limiting belief systems, body pains/tensions and difficulties with intimacy. Trauma memory often lives in the body yet the body is neglected in most traditional talk therapies. I find that helping my clients become in tune with the language of their bodies (sensations, tensions, postures) deepens the therapeutic process and gets to core issues faster than only using traditional therapy modalities and also creates meaningful change.
MINDFUL PARENT COACHING
I am passionate about helping parents explore their inner landscape in order to better understand the impact they have on their children - this is called conscious parenting. We often carry inner pain and conflicts resulting from our own childhood upbringing, and despite our best intentions, we unconsciously project these conflicts onto our children. This creates a cycle of misattunment and conflict that can continue for generations. Children tend to thrive and are more resilient when their parents feel healthy and integrated. If you find yourself getting caught up in power struggles with your child, losing control over your emotions and feeling powerless as a parent, it may be beneficial for you to take a step back and explore these dynamics as a reflection of unresolved pain or fear. These conflicts serve as an oppurtunity for your own personal growth if you allow this to happen. I find that this is an empowering and freeing process. We will work towards understanding these dynamics and strengthening the relationship you have with your children from a place of calm and inner strength.
LIFE TRANSITIONS
Over the course of your life, you will likely experience a transition that can result in distress. Examples of such transitions are:
death of a loved one or another loss
a diagnosis of a medical illness
marriage or divorce
becoming a parent
career change
transition to college/graduate school
entering a romantic relationship or breakup
These transitions can result in a number of symptoms including sadness, increased anxiety, change in sleep patters/appetite, depression, loneliness or isolating behaviors, increased substance use/abuse.
In my experience, even the most painful life transitions can result in a fuller and deeper understanding of oneself and also increase our capacity towards integration. In therapy we will discuss your goals and what obstacles appear to be standing in your way. We will work develop ways to manage these transitions and cope with symptoms with both practical solutions and new perspective taking.
